Beyond Yield: Getting More Out of Our Agroecosystems Since 1994, the Russell Ranch Sustainable Agriculture Facility has hosted an Annual Field Day to share research findings related to pressing topics in California agriculture. Field days feature tours of Russell Ranch, in-field presentations of research projects, panel discussions with growers, and a poster session to learn about the variety of research and outreach on the year's topic.

Irrigation System Evaluations Class: Theory and Laboratory Practice

This first class is ITRC's traditional comprehensive 2 1/2 day class which combines classroom (50%) and outdoor laboratory (50%) activities. Efficiency definitions and evaluation techniques are emphasized, ranging from how to take a pressure measurement to what specific measurements are needed for evaluation of six distinct irrigation methods (furrow, border strip, hand move/side roll sprinkler, linear move sprinkler, undertree sprinkler, and drip/micro). Irrigation System Evaluations Class: Field Evaluation of Drip/Micro Systems

Fertigation Course

The class will cover new techniques in the control and application of fertilizers through irrigation systems and strategies to conform with the intent of the new nitrogen regulations in California. Other topics will include nitrogen fertilizers, challenges with phosphorus and potassium applications, growth enhancers, and organic-compliant ways to keep drip systems clean. Increasing yields per acre-foot of evapotranspiration (ET) through better fertility management, will also be discussed. Course is held by Cal Poly SLO's Irrigation Training & Research Center.
